Founded in 2011, Rural Dog Rescue located at Howl to the Chief, Washington DC helps in adoption of dogs in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington DC and Maryland. They are 100% volunteer based. They focus on dogs that are often overlooked in shelters, the "underdogs", such as black dogs, hounds, senior dogs, sick and injured dogs, and pit bulls.

My Adopted Dog

Being an owner of an adopted dog myself Fergie who is now 8 1/2 years old, I understand the need for foster homes and adoptions of dogs who may otherwise be euthanized. I found Fergie, a Yorkshire terrier mix, at an animal shelter when she was 3 months old in Tennessee. She had been found when a puppy mill was found and closed down.
